Financial Requirements:

Yamaha’s objective is to ensure long term success for our future business partners. Minimum financial requirements will vary greatly depending on product lines carried, anticipated retail volume and the proposed location. In many cases, the minimum financial requirements will be significantly more than the example listed below.

New dealers retailing less than $2 million in total annual sales will need a minimum of $150,000 in liquid working capital and a remaining tangible personal net worth of at least $1.2 million. For dealerships retailing over $2 million in total annual sales, the working capital and personal net worth requirements will rise proportionately. All dealership principals must have excellent personal credit with no history of delinquency or bankruptcy.

Facility Requirements:

Minimum facility requirements ensure that every customer receives a quality experience from sales and service, to parts and accessories. Like the financial requirements, facility requirements will vary greatly depending on product lines carried, anticipated volume and proposed location (rural vs. urban, state, etc.) Ultimately, establishment of a new point will have several determining factors including market need for a new point, location and the facility.

On average, new dealers carrying the full Yamaha product line (motorcycles, ATV’s, side by side utility vehicles, snowmobiles and generators) will need a minimum of 5,000 sq ft dedicated to the display of Yamaha units, 750 sq ft dedicated to the display of Yamaha accessories and apparel, and 750 sq ft dedicated to Yamaha parts. In addition, the service department (write up area, service work area, and waiting area) should be no less than 1,000 sq ft. New dealers are also required to utilize certain Yamaha fixtures and displays.

Other Requirements:

Potential prospects can not have any felony convictions. A criminal background check and financial credit report will be run on all potential new dealer prospects.

New dealer prospects are also required to have on staff an employee with a minimum of 5 years business experience in the retail, powersports, boat, RV or automotive industry.
